Synopsis:

Dean and Colette's budding romance suffers a blow; Maggie falls for the congressman she wrote a story about; Kate's last assignment haunts her; Ted thinks he has found the love of his life.

Fate deals a blow to Dean and Colette's budding romance. Maggie writes a critical story for the Village Voice against her congressman's politics but doesn't count on falling for him after she submits it; though she wants to resist, the physical attraction between them is undeniable. Kate finds it hard to move beyond her last spy assignment and is haunted by the repercussions - she faces a fate similar to Bridget's if she cannot fake her way through a lie detector test. And Laura is in a tailspin as Ted thinks he's found the love of his life.

We open right where we left off, with Kate holding a smoking gun and a traitorous jeweler dead on the floor of his own shop. Anderson, Kate’s contact with British intelligence, makes the scene look like a robbery and tells her she has to run now because she’s in serious danger. A week later, she’s on another flight bound for London when Anderson appears again as a passenger. He tells her that he’s lied to Scotland Yard and MI-6, claiming that he was the shooter and, for both their sakes, she needs to convince them of that as well. All she has to do is beat a polygraph.

Speaking of spies, Bridget Pierce has reappeared. With the list her name was on out of the picture, she’s free to resume her life and her reclaim her real identity. Unfortunately, she also wants to reclaim Dean, who’s moved on with Colette, never knowing the truth about why Bridget had to disappear. At first Dean doesn’t even want to speak to her, but Colette convinces him to hear her out. She tries to tell him that she was sick and didn’t want to burden him, but he doesn’t believe her. When he tries to tell Colette that he’s ready to move on with her, Colette knows that he still has feelings for Bridget, despite what he says, and he needs to deal with those or they can’t be together.

Maggie is also pretty confused about the way she feels about that handsome, young Senator that she spent the night with. She hates his politics so much that she wrote an article for the Village Voice and gave it to her friend Mike to see if he could get it published. He tells her it’s too much of a hatchet job and she needs to go get some facts before he can get it run. She meets with the Senator again looking for a story, but the only headline she comes away with is “Maggie Falls for Charming Senator.” But when the paper is down a column at printing time, Mike punches up her article and runs it. Maggie can’t stop the piece from running, so she invites the Senator over to tell him about what’s going to be in the morning edition. But the words don’t come out before the kissing starts, and Maggie ends up spending the night with him again.

Laura has taken up photography and her latest subject is Ted Vanderway. Ted’s really started to have feelings for Amanda, his former childhood rival who has turned out to be a charming lady. She’s so good, she even makes lunch with Ted’s dad tolerable. The only problem is she’s saving herself for marriage, and Ted’s just not very patient. He asks Laura for advice and she tells him that there are some things worth waiting for. Ted thinks it over and decides he’s going to propose to Amanda, but when he asks Laura to help him go ring shopping, we can tell by the look on her face that she’s got feeling for Ted. Will she speak up before it’s too late?

Bridget finally breaks down and tells Dean the truth: she was a spy. Apparently that one didn’t work in the ‘60s either, because Dean doesn’t believe it. Finally she tells him that if he can look her in the eye and say he doesn’t love her anymore, she’ll leave forever. It takes a long moment and we were sure Dean was going to say it, but he ended up kissing Bridget instead. The two retire to his hotel room where they rekindle their romance and our hearts break for Colette.

Kate’s heart, on the other hand, is racing. She’s trying to come to grips with the fact that she killed a man at the same time that Anderson is trying to prepare her to beat a lie detector. The moment of truth, so to speak, finally arrives and Kate manages to pull it off. Anderson commends her for saving his life and the lives of all of the people on that list and tells her she’s free to get out of the spy game just like she’s been asking for. But she realizes that she really is good at this, and can still do some good, and has a change of heart. Let’s hope her next assignment goes more smoothly.
